Concept: Let kids play in schoolyard

In a letter to the Editor to the Daily Item, dated May 20, 2011, a concerned parent writes 'Let kids play in the schoolyard'.

Why are some school yards not open-space, open to the public after hours?  Why do most schools have no grass fields, trees and benches?

I find this to be a totally obtuse way of doing business and is consistent in my dealings with the city in this regard...I have advocated for years for more USER-oriented policies... rather than for the convenience of the city employees, et al...our First Lady is pushing MOVE programs...here we tell kids it may be better to be a video game couch potato...I see basketball hoops at High Rock Park--lying prone and chained to a fence... trash barrels are removed from playgrounds in the winter... heaven forbid our paunchy younger generation should want to use activity space in the snow!
